We believe that language learning should be fun and interactive! We expect our students to try their best and to take risks in the language classroom. Our hope is that a student that begins the program in Kindergarten will, by the end of the 8th grade, be at the intermediate level in all skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing, as outlined in the American Council of teaching of Foreign Language Guidelines (ACTFL).
Spanish at the school follows an integrated, constructivist model. We follow the grade level concepts, while ensuring that students learn Spanish language and about the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. For example, when the 4th graders engage in a study of justice in Spanish they study issues of justice in Central America. When the 6th graders study Mecca, in Spanish they learn about Islamic Spain.
