The School's innovative integrated curriculum is as much a process of creative and critical thought and action as it is a body of assimilated knowledge. Together these aspects of your child's educational experience produce a kind of synthetic perspective relevant to his or her life. Our integrated curriculum is informed by themes, concepts, and topics propelled by important questions-all of which provide a coherent and cohesive learning experience that allows for new syntheses of knowledge and the development of valuable skills. For children at The School, learning promotes understanding and the growth of creative and reflective habits of mind.

Once a year, The School at Columbia University sponsors an Integrated Projects Week. These student-driven integrated projects often involve students from different classes and grades and draw on the resources of The School, Columbia University, and the wider community. The projects present the children with wonderfully rich opportunities to reflect on what they have learned, apply new-found skills, and deepen their knowledge about a particular topic, theme, or concept already embedded in The School's curriculum. They also give the children a chance to build friendships, find new ways to work collaboratively, and make a difference in the community.
