2008-2009 Highlights

*The Misfits* Character Exploration
Students in Marisa Guastaferro's English classes read The Misfits, and created digital identities for the main characters: Addie, Skeezie, Joe, Bobby, Colin, and DuShawn.  After creating a profile, they wrote original blog entries, and networked with other characters from the story.

Photo Documentary Projects
Monica Amaro asked her Social Studies students to document key artifacts and moments in their lives with digital photos.  Students then narrated their photos in a PowerPoint Slide Show.

Tessellations
Students in Yoshiko Maruiwa's Art classes used Geometer's Sketchpad to design tessallations.  Starting with a parallellegram, students added extra lines to one side and the top which they then translated to the other side and the bottom. After filling and coloring this new polygon, students translated their shape up, down, left, and right to make a unique mosaic.

The Great Debate
Isabel Shen's math students completed a project called "The Great Debate" to determine if 1 is a prime number, composite number, neither, or both? Students could choose to demonstrate their understanding in any format (essay, childrens book, poster, Powerpoint, etc).

Muslim Contributions to the World
Students worked in pairs to create a Wiki page highlighting Muslim contributions to the world. Students were able to update their page from their personal computer, as a wiki page is a collaborative website.
