In Marisa Guastaferro's Humanities class, students rewrote a scene from "Romeo and Juliet," recording themselves reading their script, and photographed key moments from the scene with props and costumes in front of the backdrops they designed in Art with Lindsay Calhoun. Using iPhoto and iMovie, students pulled their work together into a finished project.

After studying the characters in "The Adventures of the Windmill," by Cervantes, students presented short re-enactments from the story in Talia Gonzalez's Spanish class.

Students were assigned book groups at the beginning of the year to read/discuss/analyze a book with a faculty advisor. Their work culminated at a curricular presentation with a variety of different final projects.

To commemorate the end of the first semester and the completion of their study of Mecca, students walked their parents through curricular exhibits from each of their subject areas. The event culminated with a musical performance in the Library.

In 6th grade Humanities, Marisa Guastaferro's students used iWeb to design and edit personalized SchoolSpace sites. Their websites included information about themselves as learners and as members of The School's community.

Monica Amaro's social studies students created timelines of their lives so far. They highlighted 15 key events and used primary resources and images to illustrate their finished movie.

To correspond with their study of Islam and Islamic Art, Lindsay Calhoun's 6th grade Visual Arts students learned about tesselations (repeating patterns of distinct shapes). Using Geometer's Sketchpad, students constructed polygons and applied two different transformations: translations and rotations. These colorful, geometric sketches will eventually be recreated in clay.

As a first foray into our school's new social networking site powered by Elgg, 6th Graders joined online communities focusing around their initial book groups: The Outsiders, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Esperanza Rising, Number the Stars, and City of Ember. Students learned how to customize their personal profile on the site, network with friends, and connect with other communities.
